Review: The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson

It won’t be too long and my husband and I will start to think about hanging up our Christmas lights (we like to do the outside ones before it gets snowy) and getting our Christmas tree out. It’s always fun with our two cats. They are both quite inquisitive about the tree, and one of them finds the bulbs hanging low on the branches to be quite fun. They also love to find little nooks and crannies to lay in amongst the packages once those are under the tree. Needless to say, our two feline companions bring some fun to our Christmas season.

After years abroad, Garrison Brown returns home to Vancouver to build a new life. When his beloved grandmother passes away a few weeks before Christmas, Garrison goes to her house to sort out her belongings, including six cats who need new homes. While Garrison hopes to dispense with the task quickly, his grandmother’s instructions don’t allow for speed. She has left Garrison with some challenging requirements for the future homes of her furry friends–plus a sizeable monetary gift for the new owners. Garrison’s job is to match the cats with the right owners without disclosing the surprise gift. Along the way, he may just meet someone who can make him stay.

Oh, what a fun story this was! I personally adore kitties so the synopsis of this story had me smiling and unable to wait to meet all six of the cats Garrison’s grandmother owned. Not to mention, Garrison, who is tasked with finding homes for them all, is highly allergic to the cats. It makes for an interesting plot and also creating a few moments for smiles.

This was a wonderful novel.  While I typically like stories that have a bit more depth to them, this one was certainly entertaining and had just the right amount of evergreens and twinkling lights to set the Christmas spirit.

The novel was a fast and light read. It was easy to pick back up whenever I sat it down. So if you are looking for a fun little Christmas story for the holiday season, you might want to check this one out.

I would love to hear from you! Have you started a Christmas reading list for this year? What books are on it? What Christmas novels have you enjoyed in the past?
