When I read the back cover of this book, I couldn’t help but think of the musical, Annie Get Your Gun…and one song in particular. It is one of my favorite musical songs because it’s catchy, but you can also just have so much fun with it.

Anything he can do, I can do better. At least that was what Cassie Bucknell thought before she pinned on Ben Wilder’s badge and took to patrolling the streets of Cactus Creek, Texas. Cassie has been in love with Ben since primer school, but Ben treats her like a little sister. When they are picked to swap jobs for a month as part of the annual Cactus Creek Challenge in their Texas hometown, the schoolhouse is thrown into an uproar, the jail becomes a temporary bank vault, and Cassie and Ben square off in a battle of wills that becomes a battle for their hearts.
“Being brave means stuffing your fear into your hat and then sitting on your hat.”
-Ben Wilder, The Cactus Creek Challenge
There were just so many things to love about this book. Honestly, I was hooked once I read the back cover. The premise at the center of this story made for an unpredictable story with humor and fantastic characters–and in fact, getting to meet these characters in situations that are quite different from their natural element was so much fun!
I was even a bit surprised at the depth that this story reached at certain times. Some of the characters came from some difficult pasts or had things that challenged them. These elements helped me to connect with the characters.
This was such a wonderfully fun read–and a unique story. I highly reccomend this story to anyone looking for a fun, lighthearted, and all around entertaining book.
