The Story: 365 Devotions

Find your place in God’s Epic Story.

This 365 devotional shows how God weaves His plan throughout time. As you enjoy moments with Him daily, you’ll see His plan for this place and this time of your life begin to unfold.

The Story Devotional is also a wonderful companion to the bestselling Bible The Story.

Spend every day reading God’s story, and let Him be the author of your life.

While it is no replacement for regular Bible reading, I enjoy looking through and reading daily devotion type books. For one thing, I often find that when I just sit to read the Bible, my mind can sometimes wander. Or meditating on a particular passage just feels difficult… like I don’t know where to settle on it. Devotions are handy in the ways that sometimes, they can quickly point us to something we might otherwise miss. Almost like a mini-sermon for our day.

The Story devotional is 365 short devotions (and by short, I mean the same length as this book review… or perhaps even shorter than that!). Each devotion has a verse or short passage, a brief devotion to go along with it, and then a “thought for the day”. There is one for every day of the year.

For the most part, the passages selected for each day move right in order through the Bible (not that you’ll read through the entire Bible… but the order of the devotions is fairly chronological). Around day 243, you leave the Old Testament for the New. The synopsis, states that this devotion works as a companion to The Story Bible. There is even a section in the back that tells you what pages of The Story go with which set of devotions.

Overall, I liked this book. The feature I can appreciate most is it’s brevity– however, that also means that it’s not a very meaty book. I could see this being a good devotional for someone trying to develop the habit of getting into the Word a bit more or if you are just looking for something a little extra to add in to your day somewhere.
