West Point History Comes Alive in this Warmhearted Romance

If you’ve read a book by Siri Mitchell, you can expect to catch a rich glimpse of history that makes another time just come off the page.
This was true of Siri’s latest novel, Flirtation Walk. The novel is set at West Point in 1855. I for one, enjoyed the setting and catching those scenes of cadets marching on parade grounds in the 1800’s. Within the story, are wonderful characters that also come alive. There’s a cadet who has always tried his best, and now he has to try his best to fail. There’s a young woman who has been caught in her father’s swindles, but now finds her chance to be an honest woman.
The story offers plenty of comical moments (especially with the cadets) and a few more serious moments as characters come to various realizations about themselves.
I found this story to be sweet. But a bit on the slower side. It never felt like there was too much happening in the beginning–just a lot of buildup. But, around halfway through or so, something happens and I found the pace to pick up a bit. Overall, it was a good book that I enjoyed.
